Easington Social Welfare Centre

Based in the heart of Easington Colliery in County Durham, Easington Social Welfare Centre stands as a proud testament to the former mining community of East Durham. Built in 1935 with donations from former miner’s wages, this grand building hosts the largest wooden sprung dance hall in County Durham. Despite its age it is still capable of hosting large events serving its community and the wider population.

The centre has benefited from over £366,000 worth of funding in the recent years that has helped to save the building from closure and to improve its operating ability.  Despite this success, the Trustees of the building have plans for a major redevelopment of the building costing approximately £1.7million.

Our appointed Architect has produced a visionary drawing of the redeveloped centre which would bring it into the modern era.  This redevelopment project will provide new heating system, lifts and staircases, new toilets, kitchen and entrance to the building.  It will also create new user space for our growing client needs.  The new frontage will also improve the streetscape giving the high street a new lease of life.  This project will ensure that the centre can cater for everybody and ensure the building can provide for its community for many years ahead.
